Gus Poyet believes that Ignacio Scocco could solve Sunderland's problems in front of goal ahead of the battle against relegation from the Premier League, according to the Daily Star.

If the deal is completed to sign Scocco from current club Internacional, he could even feature in Saturday's derby game against Newcastle.

The move is expected to be competed after a medical before Scocco travels to Stoke to watch his new teammates in action at the Britannia Stadium.

Poyet wouldn't confirm the transfer fee but it is believed to be around £3m. The manager had this to say about his potential new signing: "He is someone who can bring something special around the box."

Sunderland currently find themselves in the bottom three of the Premier League prior to tonight's fixtures.
