The Manchester United veteran was called into action following an injury to Edwin van der Sar and red card for the Dutch goalkeeper's replacement Tomasz Kuszczak.

The Polish stopper conceded a penalty before being sent off, so Ferdinand's first port of call was to face a penalty against Portsmouth, which ended up going in and dumping the Premier League giants out of the FA Cup.
