My name is Duncan Bochicchio, I’m from Los Angeles and I’m 19-years old. Ever since I wandered out of the sandbox as a little boy, distracted by the guys with long socks and cleats kicking that round thing about on the field, I’ve been in love with football.

After the World Cup brackets came out earlier this year, I wrote a Facebook status jokingly inviting all of my friends to donate to the ‘Duncan Goes to the World Cup’ fund. But after I got a lot of positive feedback, it had me thinking - I’m studying to be a sports journalist, I’ve written for GiveMeSport for about a year, and it’s always been my dream to experience a World Cup - What better way to kick start my journalism career than to cover the greatest sporting event in the world?

So I’ve put together a project to raise money to make this happen. My goal is to follow and report on the United States national team in their quest to advance out of the “Group of Death.” I’ve created my own website where you can read all of my GiveMeSport articles and a blog to keep you informed on the project’s progress.

I’ve also listed my entire budget for the trip, including both my dream trip of traveling to all three cities for each match the Americans play ($10,000) and the minimum trip budget to stay in Rio de Janeiro ($4,000.) Any money that I make over $10,000, or all the money if I don’t make enough to go, I will be donating to a charity I’m very involved with called United in Harmony. It’s a fantastic non-profit that sends homeless kids to summer camp, a joyful childhood experience they would never get otherwise.

Once I’m in Brazil (fingers crossed) I will be writing a daily blog and recording a video log, along with reporting on the US team. I’ll be writing analysis on each game, updates on roster news and injury reports, and predictions for upcoming matches. But to make this happen I need your help.

GiveMeSport's Writing Academy has graciously invited me to write this piece to inform my readers about my dream of getting to Brazil. Any and every donation helps, so don’t be shy to just pitch in a couple of bucks! In the first 30 days, I’ve already raised over $3,000 but I need more to make this dream a reality. You can donate at and please be sure to like, share and follow me on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. You can be a part of my journey to Brazil!
