Liverpool face competition from West Bromwich Albion in the race to sign Danny Ings, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claims the Baggies have joined the Reds in their pursuit of the Burnley star, who is earning rave reviews in the Sky Bet Championship this season.

Ings has been rewarded for his form with England U21 recognition, and the same paper reported earlier in the month that the Clarets rate the 21-year-old at £8million.

That hasn’t stopped West Brom chief scout Stuart White taking a closer look, having been present at Turf Moor at the weekend to watch the forward in action.

Whether their interest sparks Liverpool back into life remains to be seen, but Brendan Rodgers does lack depth behind his first choice strikers at Anfield and was linked with the player earlier in January.

Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge have both been in great form this season, but injury and suspension during the Premier League run-in could derail the Reds’ efforts.

Whilst Ings is untested in the Premier League - like the current options in the Liverpool squad - he is in-form this season and match fit if required.
