Manchester United target Ezequiel Garay will only be allowed to leave Benfica if suitors meet his €20million release clause, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola.
The Argentinian centre-back has been the subject of interest from a host of top European clubs including United, Valencia and Russian giants Zenit St. Petersburg. However his club remain resolute on the stance that they will not accept a valuation lower than the one which activates a clause in his contract negating their ability to reject offers.
Rumours have been rife so far this month that the 26-year-old would be on his way to Old Trafford before February 1. However David Moyes has remained coy on the prospect of more new faces being added to his squad this transfer window following his record-breaking capture of Juan Mata from Chelsea.
As he’s a long-standing target for the reigning Premier League champions, United could be forced into making a move for Garay if any other clubs meets the aforementioned €20million fee.
According to A Bola, Benfica coach Jorge Jesus is already making plans incase his defender does leave the club this month, which would imply that he expects some sort of offer to be made in the next couple of days.
