The worse the LA Lakers are this year the better they will be next season.
This week, Lakers fans were given a huge blow with the news that Kobe Bryant will be out for a further few weeks as he recovers from a fractured knee.
However, Lakers fans should really be rejoicing at the news that Bryant will be out for more time.
Kobe deliberately made sure that when he signed a new deal in November that enough money was left for more talent.
The contract in question was a two-year, $48 million contract extension, and it was orchestrated so that they Lakers could still go out an get a top quality star.
This doesn't mean that LeBron James will be parking his car up in California any time soon, and Carmelo Anthony is highly unlikely to want to spurn the opportunity at getting super-rich in New York.
For the Lakers to truly rebound for this horrific season they need to find a true long-term replacement for Kobe.
This will have to come through the NBA Draft. Regardless of whether Kobe returns this season, the Lakers certainly won't make the play-offs.
But a return of their key man before the season ends would likely see a revival in their form, which could actually be detrimental to their long-term future.
The best thing that can happen for the Lakers this season is for them to compete with the Milwaukee Bucks for the worst record in the NBA.
Just remember, the worse the Lakers are this season, the better chance they will have of rebounding.
