Published Add your comment

For all the repetitive and tiresome talk of the NBA's regular season being a lukewarm precursor to the entertaining playoffs, Wednesday night's gargantuan clash between the Miami Heat and the Oklahoma City Thunder was one of the most highly-anticipated match-ups that the league has seen for years.

Two teams tipped by many to win their respective conferences and meet for the second time in the Finals, the Heat and the Thunder possess unquestionably the two greatest basketball players on the planet - LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

The duo are comfortably ahead of the rest of the field in terms of the race to be crowned MVP, with Durant in particular staking his claim to James' throne by posting 11-straight 30-point games prior to last night's showdown in South Florida.

On the biggest night of the season so far, it was the Thunder who made a significant statement of their championship intentions with a 112-95 win at AmericanAirlines Center.

While the Thunder won the game, the battle between James and LeBron was tantalisingly close. Although James dropped 34 points to Durant's 33, you have got to give the overall edge to OKC's former Texas Longhorn who also had seven rebounds and five assists on the night.
