Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis is keen to sign a new striker before Friday's deadline, with Chelsea striker Demba Ba appearing as a surprise target, according to the Mirror.
Ba has only scored three goals in the league for Chelsea since his arrival from Newcastle, and the former West Ham man has barely featured under Jose Mourinho.
Palace would only want Ba on loan until the end of the season as a transfer fee would be too high as they fight relegation.
The deal hinges on a couple of aspects: with Fernando Torres currently injured, Ba and Samuel Eto'o are the only fit strikers at Mourinho's disposal. Especially after last night's disappointing 0-0 draw with the Hammers, it is thought the Europa League champions will be reluctant to let Ba go.
Another factor could be the future of on-loan midfielder Jason Puncheon. He is currently on-loan from Southampton and his long-term future is unclear, so Palace are thought to be keen on freeing up a domestic loan place, thus creating room for Ba.
An upturn in form since Pulis' arrival has given the Eagles some breathing space towards the bottom of the league, easing the pressure on the need for signings.
