Manchester United face competition from Napoli in the race to sign Fabio Coentrao, according to reports.
TalkSPORT cite speculation in Spain when claiming that Rafa Benitez wants to bring the player to Italy from Real Madrid, and is ready to fight old rival David Moyes for the signature.
However, both clubs could be left out of luck in their pursuit, with Carlo Ancelotti eager to limit transfer movement at the Santiago Bernabeu in the final days of the window.
That could mean transfer frustration for Manchester United, who have been linked with a move for the Portuguese international full-back on a number of occasions this month.
Indeed, the clubs were reported to have reached a ‘stalemate’ in negotiations by The Daily Star, with the Red Devils quoted £20million to bring the player to Old Trafford in the summer after an initial loan switch.
If Manchester United do miss out on the player, then Moyes will be left to consider his options in the summer, as Patrice Evra's contract reaches its conclusion.
