Since their dominating 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night, many have picked Manchester City to win the Premier League title for a second time.
Their manager, Manuel Pellegrini, has stated on many occasions that he believes that City aren’t the favourites and that the liked of Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool can still win the league. Pellegrini’s doubt most likely stems from the Citizens’ very inconsistent away form, however recently they have been on a run of wins home and away.
Manchester City’s form has to be attributed with that form of their strikers. The likes of Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, Alvaro Negredo and recently Stevan Jovetic have formed the most feared strikeforce in the league.
The pressure is certainly on in the Mancunian side and even though they are still favourites, they do have a run of very difficult games coming up starting with Chelsea who are also among the favourites to challenge for the league. City also meet FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 which on paper looks to be a fantastic fixture.
Jose Mourinho has previously stated that this season's title is Manchester City’s to lose and by doing this not only does he play mind games with the team but it adds pressure.
Pellegrini, however, knows that Chelsea are a threat and even the teams challenging for fourth can be a threat to them winning the title. In fairness, the title is in City’s hands at the moment though there is a lot more games to play they can’t afford to slip up any time soon.
