NBA head coach has his say on Carmelo Anthony's future

New York Knicks head coach Mike Woodson remains confident Carmelo Anthony will sign a new deal at Madison Square Garden.

Woodson was delighted with comments made by LaLa Anthony - Carmelo's wife - that she thought her husband would stay at the New York Knicks.

Anthony had been linked with a move to both the Los Angeles Lakers and the Chicago Bulls, however LaLa stated earlier this week played down speculation the 29-year-old was about to leave New York.

The small forward can opt out of the last year of his contract to sign for another NBA franchise at the end of the season but is said to be keen on extending his stay at the New York Knicks.

And Woodson has backed LaLa Anthony for speaking out on her husband's future.

Woodson, speaking to ESPN New York radio, said on LaLa Anthony's claims: “I love it. I’m saying the same thing. I think he’s going to stay. I want him to stay. I think New York fans, they need him here.

“These past three years, the way he’s played, has been tremendous. If he ends his career here, I don’t think he’ll ever look back and say ‘If I shoulda or coulda'.

"I just think Melo was built for New York. I hope he stays here as well.”

Anthony will be hoping the Knicks can record their fourth consecutive victory tonight, as the Eastern Conference franchise take on the Cleveland Cavaliers at Madison Square Garden.
