Arsene Wenger is lining up a move for veteran German striker Miroslav Klose should he fail to land top target Julian Draxler, reports Goal.
Arsenal are reportedly attempting to sign the young German from Schalke 04 but are yet to agree a fee with the Bundesliga outfit for his release.
Wenger admitted he is still hoping to making additions before tomorrow's deadline, but is not close to signing anyone at the moment.
And it seems that Wenger is preparing for the worst when it comes to Draxler, having already set back-up plans should he not be able to agree a deal with Schalke.
Klose, who is currently plying his trade in Serie A with Lazio is 35 but is still expected to make Germany's World Cup squad as he continues to score for both club and country.
So far the veteran has scored five goals in italy this term and is seen as a good alternative option for first-choice Olivier Giroud.
Wenger is also hoping to successfully renew attempts to sign Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid but knows Klose is more likely to join out of the two.
Morata, 21, would also join on a short-term deal should Real Madrid decide to let him leave but Carlo Ancelotti confirmed his desire to keep him at the club earlier this month.
