This is why Kobe wants you to buy his new shoe

Fans will be able to get their hands on the latest range of Kobe Bryant shoes early next month, and the LA Lakers icon believes the Nike Kobe 9 Elite could be his best signature sneaker yet.

Nike claim the Kobe 9 Elite 'redefines' the basketball shoe in terms of both aesthetics and performance due to its use of three leading technologies. These innovations are known as Flyknit, Flywire and Lunarlon.

What the hell are they? We have no idea. But, thankfully, Kobe knows what he's talking about - as he probably should.

"You don’t want the shoe to cave on you in certain areas. You want it to have give but you want the shoe to be responsive, and the Flyknit had the potential to do that, but it was a lot of work," Bryant told Forbes.

"I mean we really worked hard to get this shoe to be able to perform the way a Flyknit shoe could perform and the way a basketball shoe should perform."

These new trainers will be released by Nike on February 8 and will set fans back a hefty $225 should they be feeling flush. For that type of outlay one would expect these shoes to last for a fair while, as well as looking pretty damn cool.

Kobe reckons buyers will get plenty of hours on the court out of these shoes, and also stay looking fresh.

"We want to make sure they’re durable," he added. "At the same time, I am selling shoes, so when I step out on the court and play, my shit needs to look fresh every night. You know what I’m saying? It’s got to look fresh every night."
