Manchester United and Chelsea target Luke Shaw would be an ideal acquisition for Liverpool, according to the club's former striker, although he concedes the Merseyside club would be unable to compete against their rivals in the transfer market.
Shaw has established himself as one of the most exciting young talents in the country following Southampton's promotion to the Premier League, and has made almost 50 top-flight appearances despite being only 18.
Manchester United and Chelsea have frequently been linked with the teenaged left-back, and David Moyes is reported to have made a £22 million bid in an attempt to bring Shaw to Old Trafford before the transfer deadline.
Liverpool are also in the market for reinforcements at full-back and Aldridge believes Shaw would be a perfect fit for Brendan Rodgers, although he does not expect to see the England under-21 international arrive at Anfield.
Aldridge tweeted: "Luke Shaw, would be a great signing but we'd get blown out of the water by the big spenders."
Liverpool, meanwhile, appear set close their first signing of the transfer window with Yevhen Konoplyanka nearing a move from Dnipro.
