Liverpool's bid to add Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka before the tonight's 11pm transfer deadline has been met with a tremendous reception from the player himself, telling the Daily Star that the ongoing negotiations have left him shocked and excited in equal measure.
The Reds are in advanced negotiations with Dnipro over a £16m deal which would see Konoplyanka swap Ukraine for the Premier League today, but Liverpool still face strong competition from Tottenham Hotspur.
Konoplyanka has stopped short of revealing his preferred destination but was beaming at the thought of plying his trade in the Premier League from next month, before admitting that the sudden onset of transfer talks definitely caught him off guard.
He is quoted by the Daily Star as saying: "I’m excited about it and soon everyone will know where I will play.
“Is it very serious with Liverpool? I am shocked myself at how serious it is. I think in the near future everything will become clear.”
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has endured a frustrating month in terms of chasing fresh attacking additions, with Chelsea beating the Reds to the addition of Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah.
Rodgers wants cover in attacking areas and is willing to stump up the cash for Konoplyanka, but faces a race against time to get the deal over the line.
