Lee Cattermole could be ready to swap Sunderland for Stoke, according to reports in the Telegraph.

Mark Hughes looks set to bid for the English midfielder as he looks to bolster his squad to help ease relegation worries. The way looks to be paved for Cattermole after Sunderland confirmed the signing of central midfielder Liam Bridcutt from Brighton on the morning of deadline day.

Cattermole, who signed from Wigan Athletic in 2009, is well known for his tough tackling game has tried to help Sunderland move away from the relegation zone. 

An aspect of his game which Hughes will want to rein in will be his discipline. Having collected seven red cards in his career, the vast majority at Sunderland it won't be a surprise if manager Gus Poyet allows the midfielder to leave.

The news comes after both sides met in the Premier League on Wednesday evening, with Sunderland coming out on top 1-0 in a tightly fought game. Interestingly, Cattermole didn't feature in the match.
