Betfair refunding bets on Manchester United to retain league

Betfair have this morning announced that they are going to refund all bets that were placed on Manchester United to win the league.

The company is set to refund around £100,000 worth of stakes, as the United title challenge never materialised, and they are now 13 points behind the leaders - fierce rivals Manchester City - sitting in seventh place.

Despite the recent record breaking signing of Juan Mata, and the return to fitness of Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney, the bookmakers feel that the Red Devils will not mount a title challenge this year.

Manchester United can now be backed at a massive 70-1 with Betfair, a leading price in the industry, it's now up to the punters whether they take the cash, lay it on another team or back Moyes' men to do the impossible.

It would not be the first time Manchester United have overcome big odds, having infamously won the trouble in 1999, when an injury time goal won them the Champions League.
