The best bit of business from this January window might not actually be a new signing, but a new contract.
Leighton Baines has recently committed his long-term future to Everton amid speculation of the England left-back rejoining former manager David Moyes at Manchester United.
It was well known that when new manager Roberto Martinez came to the club one of the targets set by both himself and the club was to tie down Baines.
Despite the big name signings of Juan Mata (to Manchester United) and Yohan Cabaye (to PSG), the Baines deal could prove to be the best one.
Martinez had this to say when Baines signed: "It is a great boost internally for the club but I know the fans will be delighted because Leighton is more than a footballer at the club."
As Martinez mentions, the role which Baines plays in the team is vitally important and this is what has led to praise not just nationally but across Europe too.
The timing of the extension on the deal couldn't have come at a better time as back up left-back Brian Oviedo suffered a horrific broken leg in the FA cup tie against Stevenage.
