Manchester City have announced that star striker Sergio Aguero will be out for a month with a hamstring injury sustained against Tottenham.
The Argentine has been in lethal form this season scoring 26 times in all competitions and City fans will be concerned as to how their side cope without him.
It was at around this time last season that a Vincent Kompany injury derailed the Citizens title bid and it will be interesting to see how the side cope in Aguero's absence.
Unlike last season' injury to captain Vincent Kompany, it is unlikely that City will feel the loss of Aguero as much as they are well stocked in the striker department.
With the likes of Alvaro Negredo, Edin Dzeko and forgotten man Stevan Jovetic ready to step in Pellegrini is spoilt for choice with his front men.
In fact Manchester City have dealt with the loss of Aguero already this season after he missed eight games due to an injury suffered in the 6-3 demolition of Arsenal on December 14.
In that period City did not drop a single league point and progressed in both the Capital one cup and FA cup.
The injury however may offer a chance for the fit again Stefan Jovetic to get some game time.
Jovetic arrived for a reported £22 million in the summer and has failed to settle due to a number of injuries.
The Montenegrin international netted his first Premier League goal in Wednesdays 5-1 rout against Tottenham at White Hart Lane, and Pellegrini may feel this is the ideal time to give the talented forward some much needed minutes.
With the top of the table clash against Chelsea looming next Monday Pellegrini will be disappointed not to have Aguero at his disposal, but with 115 goals scored in all competitions already the man named 'The Engineer' will be confident his side can prevail at the Etihad where they have been irresistible this term.
The main concern for Manchester City fans is that Aguero will face a race against time to be fit for the clash with Barcelona on February 18th which he now looks likely to miss. The game will undoubtedly be tougher without the talismanic forward.
