Chelsea announced the signing of St. Etienne central defender Kurt Zouma this afternoon and he will join up with the first-team squad at the start of next season.

This signing will mean that John Terry, Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Zouma will all be in the first-team picture for Jose Mourinho next season. It means than one could be allowed to leave, and it could be the Brazilian Luiz.

Luiz has been subject of reported interest from European giants Barcelona and Bayern Munich in this window but it is thought Mourinho wanted to keep hold of his man.

The reasoning being that Chelsea are looking to fight for all competitions, meaning Mourinho wants to have as many first-team players available until the end of the season.

Luiz hasn't featured as prominently as expected under Mourinho, after being a regular last season under Rafa Benitez as Chelsea marched to Europa League glory.

A move to Barca could become likely, as they are still actively looking for a replacement for Carles Puyol - who, is still in the first-team picture but his role in the team has declined greatly over the last two seasons. This has led to former Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano playing in central defence.
