Porto defender Nicolas Otamendi is still with the Portuguese champions despite coming close to a surprise deadline-day switch to Valencia, leaving the door open for Manchester United to revive their interest with a £12.3m summer bid.
Otamendi was consistently linked with a switch to Old Trafford during the final week of the transfer window, with the Red Devils reported to have lodged an official £12.3m offer for the Argentine international early yesterday morning.
That moved failed to materialise though and with the clock ticking down Valencia made their interest concrete, with Spanish publication Superdeporte reporting that the La Liga outfit launched a late raid to land one of Europe's most coveted defensive talents.
Porto eventually decided they would not allow any of their top players to leave before the transfer window slammed shut last night though, keeping Otamendi, Eliaquim Mangala and Fernandao.
Valencia turned their attention elsewhere and completed a late move for Fulham defender Philippe Senderos, while United decided against any deadline-day madness and were content with the sole £37.1m capture of Juan Mata.
