January's latest dose of transfer madness eventually culminated in a relatively quiet deadline-day for the majority of Premier League clubs, despite Fulham and Crystal Palace combining for 10 deals apiece in the final 24 hours of shopping silly season.

Premier League big boys Manchester City decided not to sign a single player but there was plenty of money spent regardless, with a total bill of £130 spread across the division.

As attention finally returns to action on the pitch this weekend it's time to look at whether that huge outlay will be justified in the race for Champions League places, silverware and survival, with the likes of Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic looking to make their mark with top sides.
