Daniel Agger, one of the most competent footballers in the Premier League, but now he stands on the fringe of the Liverpool squad.

The young Agger signed from Brøndby IF back in 2005 for just £8 million, a bargain for all concerned. Agger was a very hot prospect.

He certainly proved that in the next seven years at the club, appearing consistently and forming a partnership with Martin Skrtel most recently, and Jamie Carragher in the past.

We thought when Carragher announced his retirement that Skrtel and Agger would form a formidable partnership, and take the league by storm. But it just never happened.

This season his form has come to a swift end, Brendan Rodgers dipped into the transfer market this summer to sign Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho, which in my view was a mistake and the cause of Agger's slip.

The duo feature ahead of Agger in the pecking order and may just drive Liverpool's best defender out this summer.

Agger has played just 13 times in all competitions this season, which isn't enough when you think that he was playing over 40 times in previous years.

I understand that the mighty Dane has been injured during this season, but I still believe that he needs to be playing more to make a successful career.

Agger has been very loyal over the years, but I think that nobody would blame him if he was to jump ship in the end.

Brendan Rodgers even admitted himself that Agger may leave, and he carries on being overlooked then I think he would be wise to leave.

I'm sure many clubs would look for his signature, he is certainly a proven defender.
