Manchester United are weighing up a move for Sporting Lisbon starlet William Carvalho and sent scouts to watch him this weekend, according to the Metro.
Reports that David Moyes is interested in the highly-rated midfielder have been circulating for some time, and the United boss did little to quell the links when he sent scouts to take notes on the youngster during Sporting’s 0-0 draw with Academica.
It is thought that the United boss will be given a hefty transfer war chest with which to completely revamp his squad this summer, having endured a poor season so far.
Despite the capture of former Chelsea ace Juan Mata, United failed to make any other January transfer window purchases and so it’s expected that Moyes will move for his priority targets at the end of the season, with Carvalho being high on the list.
The 21-year-old, who has been capped for the Portugal national side, has a huge buyout clause embedded in his contract which stands at £37million. He’s also rumoured to be wanted by both Arsenal and Chelsea and so it’s highly unlikely that it will be plain sailing in the race for to capture his signature.
