Chelsea failed with £20m Luke Shaw bid

Chelsea failed with a late £20million bid for talented youngster Luke Shaw in the January transfer window, but will make a second attempt to sign him in the summer.

According to the Daily Star, Jose Mourinho has, like most everyone else, been very impressed by Shaw's performances in the Premier League with Southampton and is keen to link up with him.

Chelsea spent £21million on former Stamford Bridge midfielder Nemanja Matic from Benfica and £12million on young Saint Etienne centre-back Kurt Zouma, with the latter being loaned back to his club for the remainder of the season, and Shaw was going to be the third youngster brought to west London.

However, it appears Southampton were not prepared to let the left-back leave, which is understandable as he looks like being the latest academy product to emerge at the Saints destined for the top of the game.

The report claims Mourinho is on the lookout for a long-term replacement for 33-year-old Ashley Cole, who has found first team football harder to come by recently and sees his contract expire at the end of the season.
