Wyoming QB Brett Smith not invited to combine

University of Wyoming qaurterback Brett Smith has not been invited to take part in the 2014 draft combine, according to reports.

This is a shock for the play caller who actually declared early for the draft as a junior. Now it's looking likely that he will enter the 2014 without an NFL organization or take up his senior year at Wyoming.

Smith is a quarterback with plenty of potential, but still needs time to fine tune his skills at the collegiate level. However, he seemed to believe he was ready to make the jump to the NFL and went ahead and declared a year before graduation.

Now it seems as though he has made a huge mistake. Murphy McGuire, Director of Football Operations for NFL consulting firm Inside The League said:

"Really surprised by the Brett Smith omission to the #NFL Combine. I thought he was a sure-fire selection. #Wyoming #Cowboys"

It's not impossible for Smith to be drafted, or picked up as a free agent, but teams now will see him as a big risk and that's really not what they want at the quarterback position.
