Jack Colback has been in fine form for Sunderland since Christmas and there is talk up in the North East about him being called up for international duty for England.
However, Adrian Durham seems to think the reason he has been overlooked is because of the colour of his hair.
"Why doesn’t anyone talk about Jack Colback for England? Is it because he’s ginger? How many gingers have worn the Three Lions with any success? Alan Ball in 1966 of course. But since then Ray Parlour scandalously won only 10 England caps, Paul Scholes quit England because he was being wasted on the left, and that’s about it.
"I’m not saying Colback should be picked because he’s ginger.
"But he certainly shouldn’t be overlooked because of the colour of his hair.
"Is he good enough? He’s better than Tom Cleverley that’s for sure."
Now, we all know Durham is a bit of a wind-up merchant, but how does this kind of waffle get published on sites such as The Daily Mail?
I very much doubt that Roy Hodgson has sat there and thought to himself: 'Jack Colback looks a good player, but he's ginger, so I'll discount him'.
Under Hodgson, players are seemingly picked on form, see Jay Rodriquez and Adam Lallana for example, and I am sure that if Roy thinks that Colback is in better form than other players in his position, he will be picked. And that is regardless of his flame-red hair.
