Man United face Barcelona fight for €25m target

Manchester United target Ivan Rakitic has been targeted by Barcelona, with the Catalan club keen to take him to the Nou Camp after this year’s World Cup, according to reports.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, citing sources in Sevilla, suggests that the reigning La Liga champions are interested in acquiring the Croatian international at the end of the season, with his release clause having been lowered to €25million.

Such news may spark action from United, who themselves have been consistently linked with the playmaker for the past few months.

The 25-year-old’s current deal at Sevilla expires in 2015 and so he and the club are embroiled in talks over a potential new deal. Speculation had suggested that he would depart the club last month, with some even stating that he was actively looking to move.

Mundo Deportivo claims that Sevilla may look to cash in on Rakitic, as €25million for a player with only one year remaining on his contract is a very financially appealing prospect.
