Manchester City have agreed an informal deal to sign Porto ace Fernando ahead of Premier rivals Liverpool and Manchester United, according to the Independent.
Reports claim that representatives of the much sought-after Brazilian have now completed their wish to sign a pre-contractual agreement with Manuel Pellegrini’s side before the end of the season, and that Fernando himself has told Porto he is departing when his current contract expires in the summer.
City came close to bringing in the 26-year-old last month, with rumours rife that they had attempted a double deal for both him and teammate Eliaquim Mangala. It’s now thought that while they maintain an interest in the latter of those two, it’s Fernando who is looking to be a nailed on purchase.
Such news will come as a blow to Liverpool and United, who have both targeted the player known as 'The Octopus' in recent weeks. The race for his signature is not over just yet it would seem, if the Independent are to be believed at least, it’s City who are edging closest to it.
