Chelsea star deals blow to Barcelona

Barcelona's hopes of signing Chelsea defender David Luiz have suffered a blow after the Brazil international confirmed he is happy at Stamford Bridge.

The 26-year-old was the subject of £35m bid from the Catalan giants last summer - and it's understood that the La Liga champions remain keen to sign the versatile centre-back, who can also play as a defensive midfielder.

Barcelona regard Luiz as the perfect long-term successor for Carles Puyol, who turns 36 in April and could leave the Camp Nou at the end of the season.

However, Luiz's latest quotes suggest he would be perfectly happy to stay with the west London outfit for the foreseeable future.

"I love to play for Chelsea, I love to play football, it doesn't matter if I play in midfield or defence," the Brazil international was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.

"I'm just lucky to play for a big club and it's nice when you can play with very good players like [Nemanja] Matic."

Luiz played a starring role for Chelsea during Monday night's 1-0 victory over Manchester City - a result which leaves the Blues two points off Premier League leaders Arsenal in third place with 14 matches left to play.
