Is this the most insane own goal ever?

Published 14 Comments

Lady luck seemed to be smiling on Barcelona during their Copa del Rey semi-final first leg clash against Real Sociedad on Wednesday night, after midfielder Gorka Elustondo was responsible for an hilarious own goal.

With Tata Martino's side already one goal to the good at Camp Nou - thanks to a strike from Sergio Busquets - Alexis Sanchez broke free of the visitors' defence, only to see his left-footed effort come back off the post.

Thankfully for Barca, Elustondo was on hand to hammer his clearance against unsuspecting goalkeeper Eñaut Zubikarai, the ball ricocheting off him and back into the unguarded net.

In truth, it was little more than Barcelona deserved, having dominated for large periods of the game. But still, the circumstances which brought about that decisive goal is something we can all enjoy for a long while yet.
