Liverpool defenders Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson are nearing a return, reports the Daily Mail.

Manager Brendan Rodgers believes he can welcome Johnson and Agger back as early as a week from now as they continue their recoveries from respective calf and ankle injuries.

“We hope Glen Johnson will be back next week,” he said. “Daniel Agger will be next week.”

The club will have to make do without them for the weekend’s match at home to Arsenal, though, but the news will be a timely boost as they look forward to the rest of the month.

They face Arsenal again, eight days later, in the FA Cup, before more crucial games in the race for the top-four.

And fans will be eager to get two of their regular back four back into the side and create some stability following the club’s leaky recent defensive performances.

They have kept only four clean sheets in their last 18 games and have constantly had to shuffle their defence due to a series of injuries.
