Liverpool should choose between £15m man and starlet

Much was made of Liverpool's inability to secure the signing of Yehven Konoplyanka from Dnipro during the January transfer window.

Many Reds supporters were left somewhat disgruntled following the collapse of the Ukrainian's mooted £15million transfer to the Premier League. But perhaps this is a hidden gem, as Liverpool may have a perfectly suited candidate to fill that role who is already in the squad.

20-year-old winger Suso is currently on-loan with struggling La Liga outfit Almeria, who are fiercely battling relegation in the top division of Spain. The Spanish winger was sent out on-loan at the start of the season in order to gain vital match experience that would hopefully stand him in good stead for the future.

And this plan has seemingly worked. In a season that has left many Almeria fans unhopeful of beating the drop and with the Andalusia based side currently lying in 17th place, there has been little to smile about in southern Spain. That is, apart from the often sparkling performances of Liverpool loanee Suso.

The silky Spaniard has made 20 La Liga appearances for Almeria this season, with his pace, trickery and ability to make assists being his stand-out qualities. He has also completed six assists for his side this campaign, with this matching the number made by La Liga superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. This alone is an impressive feat, but when you add in two goals scored and and 1.8 dribbles completed per game, Suso's progress this season has been impressive.

This brings the question, with this kind of performance being shown with a team struggling against relegation, what could the 20-year-old Spaniard complete in a side full of talent, with the likes of Suarez, Sturridge and Gerrard?

Suso's performances this season are widely unquestionable, but it is the talent on offer already at Liverpool that is the problem for the young Spaniard. Rodgers has a whole pool of talent to select when it comes to wide positions- with the likes of Moses, Sterling, Coutinho, Aspas and Assaidi (currently on-loan at Stoke) are all above Suso in the pecking order at Anfield.

Liverpool also have fellow youngster Jordan Ibe coming through the ranks at Anfield, who also plays out wide.

The Spaniard is clearly a talent, but whether he will make the grade at Liverpool is still unknown. And should the Reds sign Yehven Konoplyanka from Dnipro this summer, Suso's future will be thrown into further doubt.
