Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes Arsenal would have won the title with Luis Suarez in their ranks, but have missed their chance to sign him.
Arsene Wenger pursued the Uruguay international last summer, offering Liverpool the chance to part with their then-suspended striker for £40m plus £1.
That amount was rumoured to trigger a release clause in Suarez's contract but even though the player was keen to leave for the Emirates, Liverpool refused to budge.
Parlour, who won all of Arsenal's three Premier League titles while at the club, believes the Gunners would have their fourth in the bag if they'd sign Suarez, who has so far scored 23 goals in the Premier League.
He believes that Suarez's value is now quadruple the value of what Arsenal offered Liverpool, and they have no chance to sign him now.
Quoted in the Daily Star, Parlour said: “If Arsenal had bought Suarez they definitely would have been buying the title.
“With the goals he scores, I’m sure if they had him in their team they’d win the league. There was a lot of talk he was going to leave and Arsenal put a bid in for him.
“But he’s been sensational for Liverpool since then and probably quadrupled his price because of his goalscoring and his work rate.
“I don’t think he’ll ever go to Arsenal now. I don’t think Liverpool will ever sell him to Arsenal after the way they put their bid in.
“If they had bid £50m maybe they would have got their man, who knows? But if he leaves now it will be somewhere like Real Madrid.”
Arsenal will face up against Suarez on Saturday when they travel to Anfield for a top of the table clash against the Reds.
Parlour believes defensive pairing Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny will have their work cut out against Suarez.
Parlour said: “It’s going to be tough for Arsenal to handle Suarez. But they have been much more solid this year. Koscielny and Mertesacker have been brilliant.
