Tony Gonzalez has only just retired from professional football, but he's already talking about his former teammates to the media.
On this occasion, the future hall of famer has been discussing Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.
Gonzalez recently partook in an interview with ESPN Magazine and suggested Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan isn’t ‘elite’.
The Falcons were awful this season and Ryan's job as a franchise quarterback is to pick up his team and drag them to victories that seem almost impossible.
One just has to see what Tom Brady managed this season with a completely new receiving corp for a definition of elite. If 'Matty Ice' truly was at that level then his side should've done better.
"Matt's an excellent quarterback," Gonzalez said in the interview, "But he's not elite. He's this close."
It's a fair assessment of the QB. Ryan came 11th in Gregg Rosenthal's Quarterback Index for 2013.
Ryan is good - better than a lot in the league who would be envious to have as consistent and talented a signal caller - but he needs to kick on to prove that he deserves the $100 million contract and to truly become elite.
