Vidic set to leave Manchester United..

Premier League: Top 8 inspirational captains (1)

Published 1 Comments

With speculation concerning his Manchester United future mounting, captain Nemanja Vidic made the brave decision last night to announce that he intends to leave the Premier League champions when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Now, while it would perhaps be fair to suggest that Vidic is some way past his dominant best, such news will surely still disappoint Manchester United fans given the eight years of tremendous service that he has given to the club.

As well as being a solid and physical defender who formed a superb partnership with fellow centre-back Rio Ferdinand at Old Trafford, Serbian international Vidic also led by example as United skipper with bravery and admirable leadership.

Vidic's decision to leave Manchester United got us thinking about some of the best captains to have featured in the modern Premier League era.

So here, we decided to list eight of the most inspirational captains to have played during that particular time in the top-flight*.
