Alex Ovechkin's 40th gives Washington Capitals the win

Published Add your comment

Washington Capitals Winger Alex Ovechkin last night scored his 40th goal of the season as the Caps beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-2.

Following a flurry of shots from firstly Karl Alzner, then followed up by Nicklas Backstrom who got two shots away, both of which were saved by Ondrej Pavelec.

Ovechkin charged the net in the hope of getting a rebound, which he did as the puck came out of the blue paint and the Russian looped a narrow angle shot over all the bodies for the score.

It gave the Capitals the lead with 7:46 remaining in the third but turned out to be the winner as the Jets were not able to match Ovechkin's score.
