The Reds have something of a chequered history in the transfer market, and few will forget their spending spree in between 2011 and 2012 when Stuart Downing, Jordan Henderson, Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll arrived for a combined £100 million.

Of course it is all too easy to dismiss Liverpool's spending and look only at the mistakes they made, and while they have spent over £330 million in the last five years they've recouped over £220 million in sales.
