Manchester City

Money spent over the past five years: £640.6m

Manchester City are of course top of our big-spenders list; they've spent over £640 million, an astonishing amount of money since their Abu Dhabi owners took charge of the club.

That figure is equivalent to spending an eye-watering £95.5 million every season - although they were surprisingly quiet in the most recent January window.

In our five-year period they've only recouped around £160 million meaning they are effectively down £480 million all told.

They've had some success in that time and won the FA Cup as well as the Premier League title, but the owners will certainly be looking for a better return in years to come with Manuel Pellegrini in charge.
