New Zealand are currently in the process of humbling India. After beating their visitors 4-0 in the ODI series, the Blackcaps have begun the two Test match series with two days of world class cricket.
Skippered by Brendon McCullum, the Kiwi's have a lead of 373 while the Indians have just 6 first innings wickets remaining.
McCullum was joined in a huge fightback partnership by Kane Williamson to dig themselves out of a hole at 30-3, with both men reaching centuries after Tea on day one.
Williamson fell for 113, but McCullum was well supported early on day two by Corey Anderson (77), Tim Southee (28) and Ish Sodhi (23) as the captain made his second Test double century and second against India.
Eventually the Kiwi's were bowled out for 503, but they immediately set about the Indian top order with Trent Boult removng Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara in the first over.
Southee then got the big wicket of Virat Kohli as Inda were reduced to 10-3.
Murali Vijay and then Ajinka Rahane both joined in steady partnerships with Rohit Sharma as India tried to fight there way back into the game. Vijay fell soon after Tea for 26, but by the close Rahane (23) and Sharma (67) had put together an unbeaten stand of 79.
The Kiwi's will very much be backing themselves for the rest of this Test match, and I think that if they can contniue this good form, they will be a good bet for getting to the latter stages of the World T20 next month.
In Brendon McCullum they have a world class T20 batsman and a superb captain. Kane Williamson is an ever consistent performer, Corey Anderson an incredible striker of a cricket ball (the next Shahid Afridi?), and the bowling attack is high on quality with Southee at the forefront.
Many players who aren't in this Test side will also have a big impact, such as Jesse Ryder, Martin Guptill, Nathan McCullum and Mitch McGlenhagan.
The future looks bright for New Zealand and I expect them to be a force to be reckoned with for the next 5 or 6 years If the team can stay fit, and players outside the team can find form again, they could be a world beating outfit.
