Chelsea predicted XI v Newcastle

Published 5 Comments

Chelsea produced arguably the best performance of the 2013/14 Premier League season to date on Monday evening, after a Branislav Ivanovic thunderbolt secured the Blues a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over Manchester City.

Although they did notch as many goals as their dominance may have deserved, the game at the Etihad Stadium will surely have given the club's fans massive encouragement that they can challenge for the title this season.

Next up for Chelsea and Jose Mourinho following such an impressive display, is another Premier League affair - this time at home against Newcastle United.

Alan Pardew's men, who currently sit eighth in the Premier League with 37 points, are likely to be reeling from last week's woeful battering at the hands of fierce local rivals Sunderland at St. James' Park.

In terms of team news for Chelsea ahead of this fixture, it doesn't appear that Mourinho has any new injury problems to contend with.

Fernando Torres has reportedly returned to Chelsea training this week, but the Newcastle game will surely come too early for him to make a comeback from damaged knee ligaments.

The dilemma the Chelsea boss will have, one imagines, is whether to stick or twist with a team that performed so commendably in a tough game at City. Will he be tempted to bring Oscar back in, or will he stick with Nemanja Matic - who was do impressive on Monday night?

We think he might just be inclined to stick with the same lineup.

So, without further ado, here is our predicted lineup for Chelsea ahead of this Saturday's clash at Stamford Bridge..

Cech; Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill, Azpilicueta; Luiz, Ramires; Hazard, Willian, Matic; Eto'o.
