The University of Texas have failed to average an attendance of more than 100,00 at home football games for the first time in five years, a report has revealed.

The college, which boasts one of the most prestigious football programs in the nation, finished 8-5 last season and fired coach Mack Brown after their Alamo bowl defeat to Oregon.

The Texas Memorial Stadium can hold over 100,000 people but only an average of 93,976 attended in the Longhorns six home games there last season.

Former Louisville head coach, Charlie Strong was hired as Brown's replacement at Texas and the University acquired the 20th best recruiting class in the nation.

Texas is one of the richest programs in the country with almost unlimited resources. They also have their own television network, 'The Longhorn Network' which is operated by ESPN.

Texas last won the National Championship in 2005, when Vince Young was their quarterback. They also appeared in the 2010 game but lost 37-21 to Alabama.
