Mesut Ozil will be 'absolutely frightening' once he has fully settled into the Premier League.

That is the view of former Arsenal star Ray Parlour.

The German playmaker signed for the Gunners on deadline day during the summer transfer window, and his £42.5million arrival has sparked a serious title challenge from Arsene Wenger's side.

Despite showing glimpses of his undoubted ability, the former Real Madrid man has been criticised by some for a few below-par performances.

However, Parlour - who made over 300 league appearances for the North London club - believes the silky attacker will terrify defences sooner rather than later.

"Mesut Ozil will be a frightening prospect once he has completely settled into the team,” Parlour is quoted as saying in the London Evening Standard.

"He’s still learning about English football but when we see the best of Ozil he will be absolutely frightening.

"I think his best is yet to come. It says something when the likes of Ronaldo at Real Madrid were sad to see him leave because of the number of goals he set up there."

Despite an apparent dip in form, the Arsenal star still boasts one of the highest number of assists in the league, his eight only bettered by Wayne Rooney's nine.

The Gunners now face a daunting 12 days, with home and away games against Liverpool, as well as visits from Manchester United and Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

First up for the table toppers is a trip to Anfield where they'll be looking for Ozil to help keep them at the Premier League summit for at least another week.
