Manchester United star David de Gea is close to penning a new contract that will see him tied to the club until 2018, according to the Metro.

The announcement of the deal, thought to be worth £90,000-a-week to the Spanish ‘keeper, comes only days after it was revealed that club captain Nemanja Vidic is set to leave the club at the end of the season, with Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra also linked with moves away.

It’s thought that David Moyes is keen to tie down the 23-year-old as he plans to revamp his United squad this season.

The Scot will be wary of interest from Spanish champions Barcelona, who have been linked with De Gea recently as current No.1 Victor Valdes is leaving in the summer.

Despite enduring a rough start to his career at Old Trafford, De Gea has matured into a well rounded stopper, and his age means that he could well become a United stalwart for years to come.

The four-year-deal is likely to be accepted by the Spaniard, who has never let on that he wants to leave Manchester.
