Conceding four goals in 18 minutes and 40 seconds is NOT championship winning form. Not by the stretch of anyone's imagination.
Yet Arsenal find themselves in the position where they must imagine that they can still pose a credible challenge for the title - despite a disgraceful and lacklustre display against a rampant Liverpool side.
Arsenal's poor display against Liverpool is endemic of a team who do not have enough pride and respect for their club or themselves as professionals - something of a norm in football today.
Many a February over the last nine years has seen Arsenal capitulate and it is high time Arsene Wenger's players took some responsibility.
It cannot be possible that it is Arsene Wenger's fault every time.
If it is then surely that makes Wenger one of two things - the best supported manager of all time or the luckiest manager of all time.
But perhaps its both, which must make managers like Michael Laudrup and Roberto di Matteo sick as parrots.
Both men were fired after delivering unprecedented titles to their respective clubs. Let’s hope that Arsene Wenger’s luck in retaining employment can be transferred to his ability to deliver silverware this season otherwise it may be time to call it a day.
Regardless of how poor Arsenal were today, take nothing away from Liverpool - their players came out playing like they were the league leaders and Arsenal would do well to learn from Liverpool if they are to ensure that they do not have a repeat of their embarrassing display against Manchester United on Wednesday night.
If Arsenal can come out on Wednesday and win convincingly against United and then follow it up with a result against Liverpool in the FA Cup next weekend then maybe - just maybe - they might be able to realise their aspiration and prove all their detractors wrong.
What would it take to convince doubters that Arsenal have true mettle? They can start by knocking Bayern Munich out of the Champions League and then going on to make the final.
February is going to be a challenging month for Arsenal and the big question that their players must answer is - do they have the stomach for the fight?
