David Moyes is prepared to wield the axe this summer with up to 12 Manchester United first-team players under threat, according to the Daily Star.

The report claims Rafael Da Silva, Patrice Evra, Shinji Kagawa, Nani, Anderson, Rio Ferdinand and Alex Buttner could all follow Nemanja Vidic's lead and leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.

The Serbian defender has confirmed he intends to quit United when his contract expires this summer.

Other players in the firing line include Tom Cleverley, Wilfried Zaha, and Javier Hernandez while Ryan Giggs could retire in what promises to be a transitional summer at Old Trafford.

But it will not just be confined to players leaving, as the report claims Moyes is planning to bring in at least five new players before the start of the next campaign.

He's reportedly turned down the chance to work for a number of TV stations at the World Cup in Brazil.

He will still head down there, but plans to do so in a scouting capacity as he searches for the right names to help rebuild United into a title contender.

With a number of United defenders tipped to leave, the manager's focus will likely be on strengthening his back-line.

The likes of Eliaquim Mangala and Ezequiel Garay have been linked with the Old Trafford club.
