Gareth Bale scored for Real Madrid last night as his side overtook city rivals Atletico to regain the top spot in La Liga.
The former Tottenham star opened the scoring after just seven minutes, with a chipped effort from close range.
Two goals from France international Karim Bemzema, and a single strike from Jese, proved to be enough to ensure a 4-2 win over Villarreal and return Madrid to the summit on goal difference.
Barcelona currently lie in third place, and are three points behind the two Madrid sides.
They face a trip to Sevilla tonight as they look to go level in what could be a tight race for the La Liga title.
The Welshman Bale has so far proved this season that his goal scoring abilities in the Premier League which won him his dream move to Madrid were no fluke.
His goal last night was his 11th in all competitions so far this season, and with Cristiano Ronaldo missing due to suspension recently, the 24-year-old has shown he can handle the pressure.
Next up for Bale and Madrid is the Copa Del Rey semi-final second-leg against Atletico on Tuesday night. Real have one foot in the final already after a 3-0 first-leg victory last week.
