Almeria earned an impressive 2-0 win over La Liga title-chasers Atletico Madrid last night (Saturday).

However, things might have been very different had Helder Barbosa been dismissed for a horrific two-footed challenge on Thiago in the second-half.

With the scores level at 0-0, the Portuguese winger - on loan from Braga - lost control of the ball in an initial challenge with an Atletico midfielder.

And, in an attempt to win the ball back, the 26-year-old appeared to lose control as both feet came off the ground and down on the opponent's leg.

The referee had a perfect view of the incident, as shown in the video at the top of this story, but inexplicably appeared to opt against blowing for a free-kick. Barbosa got away with it, not picking up a yellow or red.

It wasn't such good news for Tiago, who was substituted after the incident and could be out for weeks with a sprained knee joint.

With the final result also going against Diego Simeone's side, things couldn't have gone much worse for Atletico.
