Arsène Wenger shouldered the blame for Arsenal’s 5-1 defeat at Liverpool admitting that “the whole team failed to turn up with the right performance” including himself.
To add to the misery of Arsenal's defeat it emerged that defender Per Mertesacker sustained a black eye at the hands of young Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo who signed for the Gunners in the summer on a free from French outfit Auxerre.
When questioned about this Wenger wisely played down the feud saying that it was the kind of incident that happens throughout the season.
Arsenal also said that the clash involving Sanogo and Mertesacker had taken place some time ago, according to the Daily Mirror.
Mertesacker himself tried to keep the scrap under wraps saying in a interview on Friday that he sustained the black eye after being accidental elbowed by fellow team mate Wojciech Szczesny in training.
Arsenal have a huge month ahead of them, on and off the field. With a run of tough fixtures including the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester united and so on they will have their work cut out.
So Wenger will no doubt be looking for a tight bonded unit.
