Juan Mata completed his permanent move from Chelsea to Manchester United during the January transfer window, after not gaining regular playing time under Jose Mourinho.
Some were extremely surprised about Mourinho's decision to allow Mata to sign for a club who had always had a close rivalry with themselves over the years however, because of the Red Devils' torrid season, the Blues boss didn't have an issue with making the switch.
Manchester United lacked ability around the centre of the park, therefore they felt Mata would bring something special to the team and bolster their chances of finishing in the Champions League. Mata unlocks defences, which is significant if the current Premier League holders are to score more goals.
Since his arrival, United have marginally improved but have still not stepped up to the usual standards they had set themselves prior to this campaign.
The accusations of the manager reflecting United's current league position are absolute nonsense in my opinion. The team have under performed all season, and blaming David Moyes seems to be route one for the majority of people linked with the club. However Mata brings a breath of fresh air to the side, already proving he can live up to the large amount payed for his services.
There are no question marks whatsoever at Old Trafford on the transfer of Mata; all supporters are thrilled to have purchased such a fantastic player.
However other teams higher in the table such as Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City may feel they have missed out by not enquiring about the player. The only question in the minds of United fans is if their new number seven will be able to revive their current season; is Champions League qualification possible, or is it not?
